Plain ales from fermented barley wort were undoubtedly made in the pre-hop era. However, where possible herb flavourings would have been added to offset the bland flavour of plain ale.
 
  1 1/4 lb Pale Malt  
  3/4 lb Carapils  
  1 gram each of Myrica Gale (Sweet Gale), Ledum Palustre (Marsh Rosemary) and Achillea Millefolium (Millfoil or Yarrow)  
 
     
 
Mature for 3 months.
